Varadero
On the northwest coast, about 140km east of Havana, is Cuba's premier beach resort, Varadero. Varadero is, in fact, the name of the town at the south end of the Punta Hicacos peninsula, and is also used to refer to the hotels that stretch along the strip right to its tip. Bordered by the bright blue seas of the Atlantic Ocean and warmed by the tropical climate, Varadero and its beaches are truly a sight to behold. There's a lot to see and do here: sunbathe under a parasol, view beautiful Indian artifacts, visit the house of Mafia boss, Al Capone, which has now been converted into a bar/restaurant, or even swim with the dolphins in their natural lagoon environment - the list is endless.
